The Virginia America 250 Commission (VA250) was created in 2020 by the General Assembly for the purpose of preparing for and commemorating the 250th anniversary of Virginia’s participation in American independence. The Commonwealth VA250 Commission has requested that each locality form a committee to aid in planning for the commemoration period. Therefore, the Board of Supervisors of Essex County has authorized the creation of a VA 250 Committee and delegates authority to the Essex County Economic Development Authority (EDA) to assemble a VA250 Committee for Essex County.
The VA250 Committee of Essex County will plan and coordinate programs occurring within the locality and will communicate regularly with the Commonwealth VA250 Commission. The Board of Supervisors and the Economic Development Authority of Essex County wish to undertake this endeavor with VA250 to promote and commemorate this important historic milestone
