Job Title: Deputy Clerk to County Administrator (One Full-Time Position Available)

 

The Essex County Administrator seeks an individual to fill the full-time position of Deputy Clerk. This individual will perform intermediate technical and paraprofessional work in the County Administrator's office. The Deputy Clerk will assist with the preparation, maintenance, and distribution of Board packets, agendas, material, files, and records to include electronic and hard copy formats, attend all Board meetings (including but not limited to regular work sessions, monthly meetings, and budget sessions) to assist with the recording of events or actions taken at meetings, takes notes and prepares minutes of official proceedings, prepares for publication and placement of legal notices and advertisements for public meetings and hearings in accordance with Virginia law and local ordinances, assists with the preparation of facilities for meetings of the Board coordinating with appropriate staff and County departments; manages the Boards, Authorities, Committees, and Commissions applications, vacancies, and records; SOEI filing requirements, coordinates special events and receptions, acts as a Notary Public, performs related tasks as required. Candidate must possess a comprehensive working knowledge of the functions and organization of local county government and general administrative policies and procedures, the ability to communicate effectively, ability to prioritize workload with minimal direction, possess the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, department heads, employees, and the public. The ability to work and interact professionally with tact, discretion and diplomacy is required. 3 to 5 years of administrative support work required, experience in local government preferred. This position reports directly to the County Administrator. A valid Virginia driver’s license is also required.
