Please join the Chesapeake Gateways Communities Committee (CGC) for an informative meeting with the National Park Service on September 30, 2024 at 10am at the Essex County School Board Meeting Room at 109 Cross Street, Tappahannock, VA.

The Chesapeake Gateways Communities Program is a new “pilot program” that the NPS initiated this past spring. It is a Community Assistance Program to attract tourism and to educate the public on the history and ecological importance of the Chesapeake and its tributaries. The Park Services’s goal is to use this program to establish a “visitor experience network” focusing on a select number of tidewater communities in the Bay watershed. Tappahannock/Essex is one of 5 that have been selected.
