Animal Control Advisory Commission

Purpose of the Commission:
The Essex County Animal Control Advisory Commission acts in an advisory capacity and reports to the County Administrator in the review and development of rules, regulations and ordinances for the care and control of animals within the County; studies and makes recommendations regarding the acquisition and provision of services and facilities for the care and control of animals by the County.

Major Commission Activities:
The commission takes part in many issues related to animals; addressing the health, welfare and safety of animals and people in our community. Some of the principal matters the commission will focus on include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategic planning for the animal care and control services program
  • Increasing animals adopted, claimed, and rescued
  • Expanding public education on spay and neuter of pets and the importance of regular visits to the vet
  • Reviewing and making recommendations on ordinances related to animals
  • Fundraising
  • Volunteer program

Commission Meetings:
Commission meetings are held quarterly. Meetings will be in the Beale Administration Conference room at 202 South Church Lane, Tappahannock, VA and begin at 4:30 PM.
