Broadband Project Update 9/29/2025

Take a look at the map above to see how the project is progressing in your area!

Some key pieces of information of which you should be aware:

  1. To make sure your address is part of the project, please reach out to Breezeline via the address portal (https://events.breezeline.us/essexcounty-youhaveachoice/original_page)! If internet difficulties impede your ability to fill out the web form, please call the County GIS office at 804-443-3490 and we’ll type in the info you relay to us over the phone!
  2. If you live down a long driveway/private road, make sure the owner of the road gives Breezeline permission to come down the road!
  3. If you have non-Miss Utility buried features (sprinklers, electric fences, etc), let Breezeline know so they don’t inadvertently find them!

GEV 13 and GEV21 are expected to finish going live soon! They are activating section by section.

We also have a tentative schedule for the rest of the project! The goal is to finish by the end of March to be done before planting is really underway and access to farm fields becomes limited.

GER05 and GER06 are expected to go live in October. They continue to wait on power supplies.

GEV10, GEV11, and GEV12 are expected to go live by the end of November.

GER01, GER03, GEV17, and GEV19 are expected to go live by the end of December.

GER02, GEV18, and GEV16 are expected to go live by the end of February.

GEV15 and GEV14 are expected to go live by the end of March.

The power supply step has been taking longer than we would like, so Breezeline has set up a tracking sheet to make sure the timelines between installation and activation of the power supplies do not exceed REC’s projected wait times. Breezeline’s goal is to get the power supply step knocked out earlier in the process so that even if we’re waiting on pole make ready, this step will be done.

The Dunnsville switch is now active!

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative is holding off doing some of the pole replacements until after crops come out of the field.  Breezeline will attach to those replaced poles in that same window between harvest and planting.

Some houses are not in a project area, but also do not currently have service. Out of the 497 that we identified as not being in a project area, 131 are not in the current VATI project. Breezeline is going through the addresses to establish what the situation is for each. So far, there have been several regions of addresses that are not in a project area because that neighborhood already has service available. There are some anomalies at the border with Caroline County, where the same house has an address for Essex and an address for Caroline (for the purposes of the grant) that Breezeline is also working to sort out to get an accurate count of houses served.
