The Essex County Grant Management Program, working in conjunction with County Departments and Regional Agencies:
- Seeks grant funding opportunities from federal, state, foundation, and corporate giving programs;
- Coordinates with County Departments and Regional Agencies in the preparation, review, and submission of grant applications;
- Assists in the processing of grant award documentation;
- Monitors compliance with financial and programmatic reporting requirements; and
- Aids in the close out and records retention process.

Ready, Set, Go!
On May 10, 2024 Essex County received notification that the Virginia Department of Transportation - Local Assistance Division (LAD) selected Essex County's application to participate in the Ready, Set, Go! (RSG!) program. The RSG! program is an initiative led by the Local Assistance Division (LAD) within the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to provide technical planning assistance to localities in the development of Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) applications. TAP is a federal reimbursement program that is intended to help local sponsors fund community-based projects that expand non-motorized travel choices and enhance the transportation experience by improving the cultural, historical, and environmental aspects of the transportation infrastructure.

School Resource Officer Grant (SRO)
On May 13, 2024 Essex County received notification that Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services awarded Essex County with the School Resource Officer (SRO) Grant. The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) offers state grants to continue funding and establish new funding for School Resource Officer (SRO) positions to establish, enhance, and continue the partnerships between local law enforcement agencies and school divisions. A “School Resource Officer” means a certified law enforcement officer hired by a local law enforcement agency to provide law enforcement and security services to Virginia public schools. An SRO may be a full-time or part-time employee of a law enforcement agency.

Victim Witness Grant Program (VWGP)
On May 24, 2024 Essex County received notification that the Essex County Sheriff's Office was awarded the Victim Witness Grant. The VWGP grant provides financial support to local victim/witness programs and statewide victim assistance programs designed to provide direct services, information, and assistance required by Virginia's Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act.

TRIAD Crime Prevention for Seniors Award Program
On August 22, 2024 Essex County received notification from the Office of the Attorney General that the TRIAD Crime Prevention for Seniors Award Program was awarded to the Essex County Sheriff's Office and Tappahannock-Essex County TRIAD. The TRIAD Crime Prevention for Seniors Award Program funding will be used to purchase refrigerator magnets containing key local health and safety numbers, craft bags containing pencils, coloring books, and various hygiene items that will be primary distributed through the Meals on Wheels program targeting roughly 26,000 individuals.
