Public Inspection of documents
Documents are available for public inspection in our office normal business hours. Copies are $0.50 per page.
If you have a subscription to Secure Remote Access, you may also view or printed many of these records online. Not all documents are available online.
Filing Requirements
As the county records, the Clerk files these types of documents as well as others. Currently we use the Virginia Supreme Court Recording System (COVERS) for indexing and scanning. Virginia Law (§17.1-277.1) allows clerks to require a cover sheet for all recordings.
Documents to be recorded must be properly notarized. All documents recorded must be originals. While incorrect fees, missing cover sheets, and improper notaries may be the most common reasons to reject and return land records, there may be many other reasons for return. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact our office.
Plats
Must be originals. We keep 2 for our office. The County plat officer must approve plats with changes. If you have a question about your plat needing approval, please contact the County Administration Office at 804-443-4331.
Plats may not be recorded with out a deed or confirmation of plat. We will not put a plat to record without documentation attached.
We do not currently e-record.
The Virginia Judicial Website does have a link that you can use for calculating the recording fees prior to sending in your document to be recorded.
