Clerk of the Circuit Court

The Clerk of the Circuit Court serves as the general record keeper for the court, and records land transfers, deeds, mortgages, wills, adoptions, divorces, military records, election results, and court judgments. The Circuit Court office also issues marriage licenses, name changes, notary commissions, and concealed handgun permits. The Clerks office also collects fines and costs from court proceedings.

The Circuit Court does NOT accept any debit or credit cards.

Recording Hours Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4pm

It is the mission of Essex County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office to maintain all court records, documents, and evidence in its control in a timely and cost-effective manner. The Clerk’s Office will provide expedient, efficient, and friendly service to the public, including but not limited to attorneys at law, judges, and other agencies of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the County of Essex.
